Dear WYPR Executive Board:
I am writing to support the movement to get the Marc Steiner Show back on the air. WYPR's management acted against the public interest in taking this valuable program off the air without consulting the station's Community Advisory Board or its membership.
The Show is the only forum in Maryland for hearing diverse voices engaged in intelligent dialogue, and the two reasons the station's management has given for canceling the show, do not hold water. Specifically, 1) The Steiner Show s not "too focused" on Baltimore - it has statewide and nationwide appeal, and 2) According to Sun reporter Chris Kaltenbach, the Steiner Show's ratings have not fallen (please see his February 7, 2008 Blog). By removing this valuable program, ignoring the public and deceiving its listeners, WYPR management has betrayed its public trust.
WYPR should be run as a listener-owned station, and I am one of the countless listeners that want the Steiner Show back on the air. If current management cannot respond to the desires of its membership, then that management should be changed.
Please bring Marc back before public radio in Maryland is irrevocably damaged. I will not support the station until the Steiner Show is back on the air.
Sincerely,
Your name
